Spinal decompression refers to the stretching of the spine using a special table designed to relieve pressure on the nerves. At Willow Bend Chiropractic in Plano, TX, we use spinal decompression therapy to reduce your pain and assist the recovery process. You do not have to undergo invasive procedures for treating disc degeneration, herniation, and other related conditions. We will provide a non-invasive procedure that promotes faster healing with no adverse side effects.
During the spinal decompression procedure, the patient lies on their back on a traction table. One harness is placed in the area around the waist and the other around the pelvis. Depending on the type of table the chiropractor is using, you can either lie down facing upwards or downwards.
The bottom part of the table provides traction by moving back and forth, while the upper part does not move. This lasts for around 45 minutes and the table is controlled by the chiropractor using a computer. Since every patient is unique, the number of decompressions used for the patient will vary.
The spinal decompression procedure does not cause pain. Our chiropractor will do his best to make sure you are comfortable. However, if you have any body aches, lying on the table may make you a bit uncomfortable. The procedure is usually gentle, but you can feel your spine stretching. Some patients will even fall asleep during the process. Many patients report finding pain relief a few days after the session.
